Learn how Dudley Council is making its homes more energy efficient

People can learn more about how Dudley Council is working to make its homes more energy efficient and sustainable at this small group visit to a recently retrofitted home in the Brockmoor Estate. NEW DATE ADDED – SATURDAY 8TH FEBRUARY, 1PM.

As part of the council’s climate action, Dudley has been the first in the region to secure funding for an innovative carbon busting project, designed to bring neighbourhood carbon emissions down. It’s part of the West Midlands Combined Authority’s Net Zero Neighbourhoods Project.

The Community BEES (Brockmoor Energy & Environment Scheme) project is looking at retrofitting homes with energy efficient technology and making green spaces, public buildings and transport links more sustainable.

As part of the project, the local authority has retrofitted a council home to utilise an air source heat pump, Solar Panels and specialist insulation. People will be able to come and experience the retrofitted home and learn more about some of the technologies and adaptations that have been made, with a tour and a chance to ask questions during the visit.

There will also be information about the Community BEES project and its achievements so far.

The measures installed at the property include: floor insulation; loft insulation; cavity wall insulation; air source heat pump; solar panels with battery storage; aero barrier; mechanical ventilation with heat recovery. The house is currently unoccupied, with new tenants due to move in shortly after this event.

Councillor Ian Bevan, Dudley MBC Cabinet Member for Housing and Communities, said:

“Dudley Council is working towards being a Net Zero council by 2030, and we have a vision of a NetZero borough by 2045.

“The Net Zero Neighbourhoods projects are creating a blueprint for how homes can be made more energy efficient in the future, playing a huge role in helping to minimise the way our homes will impact the climate in the future.

“This project is funded by WMCA and is the result of many years of fantastic collaborative working between Dudley Council, Equans, Keele University, Connecting Places Catapult and Carnego and I would like to thank everyone who is involved in making it a reality.”

Two dates available – Friday 7th February 11am, Saturday 8th February 11am. Public transport – buses 226, 15, 2A, X10 run nearby, from Merry Hill Centre. The postcode of the house is DY5 3XD, you will be emailed the address the day before the event.
