Green Doors Returns to Solihull
For the first time in over 10 years, Green Doors returns to educate and support residents with energy efficiency and retrofit, starting with an exclusive home energy tour in Hampton-in-Arden.
Over two thirds of homes in Solihull are predicted to be in need of energy efficiency measures to achieve EPC C in order to improve health & wellbeing, reduce bills and emissions to bring homes into the 21st Century. According to Age UK’s ‘The Cost of Cold’ report every £1 spent on retrofit, there is a 42p saving in costs for the NHS.
Funded by Midlands Net Zero Hub, the project is delivered by Solihull Council and Good Work Co-operative. As part of the Council’s action on the Climate Emergency, the project is working with local residents to share what home improvements people are doing to local homes for
- Healthier homes
- Better air quality
- Energy saving
- Reduced emissions
Local residents, Jane and Colin, from Hampton-in-Arden will be the first of three to open their home to small groups of people for study visits. Visitors will experience the upgrades Jane and Colin have made to their 2021 built property. These include:
- Upgrading the gas boiler to an Air Source Heat Pump
- Installation of Solar Photovoltaic (PV) Panels
The first slots will take place on Friday 24th October and Saturday 8th November 2025 with several time slots available. There will also be a webinar for those who cannot attend in person.
Booking is essential. The address and joining instructions will be shared upon booking confirmation.
We welcome those who are considering installing a heat pump, solar panels or other energy efficiency measures to join us. This is a fantastic opportunity to learn from a local householder who has been through the process, including choosing and working with contractors; along with talking to the organisers about where to begin when upgrading your home.
Housing, energy professionals, and students are also encouraged to attend.
